Position Summary

The Rockefeller Foundation works around the world to promote the well-being of humanity by expanding opportunities for poor and vulnerable people. The Rockefeller Foundation is seeking a qualified Senior Associate to join the Foundation’s Power team. The Senior Associate will contribute to the development and execution of a multi-year initiative to bring electricity to rural households and businesses in Asia. This Senior Associate role requires a dynamic individual to support a range of strategic priorities, working closely with the Director and colleagues from the Power team and other departments (legal, communications, grants management and finance) based in New York Headquarter and Nairobi Regional Office.  Reporting to Director, Power based in Bangkok, the Senior Associate will support grant and non-grant activities in India, Myanmar, and China. This will be a demanding role that requires an individual who enjoys generating new ideas and getting things done, and who has the skills and confidence to work autonomously in a different time zone, at times leading negotiations with partners in order to ensure the delivery of high impact work. 

Duties and responsibilities include, but are not limited to:

  • Support the Power team’s Director in Bangkok on the management of a portfolio of grants within the Power initiative in Asia
  • Support the Director in managing two country platforms i.e. Smart Power Myanmar, Smart Power India and other grantees by initiating and managing processes related to strategy, workplan, budgeting, funding process, and monitoring and reporting
  • Ensure high quality submission of reports and deliverables by providing analytical and technical feedback on reports and deliverables produced by RF grantees and partners
  • Collaborate with the Innovative Finance team to monitor power-related investment transactions in Asia to ensure that investees fulfil programmatic requirements
  • Ensure grant payout, PRI disbursements, contract payments and expenditures are paid as planned through close monitoring and timely follow-up
  • Research potential grantees and experts, write concept notes and grant memos, conduct due diligence, and review grantees’ proposal and budget documents
  • Monitor trends and new developments in the field including, but not limited to new players, new research related to rural electrification, technological changes, policy movements, important upcoming key events, etc. Produce update briefs as required.
  • Prepare documents for internal communications and external convenings (event agenda, briefing reports, talking points, input into speeches, etc.) as required
  • Contribute to team financial forecasts and budget reviewing processes
  • Coordinate activities with grantees and, when appropriate, represent The Rockefeller Foundation in monitoring visits and / or external events
  • Engage actively in internal strategy discussions
  • Collaborate with teams to ensure strategic dissemination of information and knowledge products through various RF’s and partners’ communications channels and social media
  • Engage effectively and in a timely manner with other teams (Monitoring and Evaluation, Program Related Investment, finance, legal and Global Policy and Communications  teams) to ensure effective implementation of the Power’s strategy in Asia
  • Collaborate with the Asia Office to achieve the goal of the Power strategy and actively participate in Asia Office’s activities as appropriate

Qualifications, Experience and Competency Requirements

  • Commitment to RF’s mission and core values, with a track record of work in a field related to RF’s areas of work
  • Minimum of a bachelor’s degree in energy, business, environment, or related field
  • A minimum of five years of professional experience in energy (energy access, energy policy, energy project management), climate change or a related sector (international development or impact-focused experience strongly preferred)
  • Familiarity with renewable energy systems; experience in appraising proposals, analyzing energy data/research; experience in financial modeling and energy investment a plus
  • A strong orientation towards being proactive, analytically rigorous and creative
  • Ability to multi-task and to prioritize work amidst competing demands, with a commitment to accuracy and attention to detail
  • Ability to analyze and present complex data and concepts
  • Outstanding communication skills in English, both oral and written
  • Proficient IT skills (Word, Excel, PowerPoint, etc.) and strong presentation skills
  • Willingness and ability to travel internationally regularly
  • Open to Thai nationals only
