Thai Language MYP and DP Teacher

Reports To :Head of Thai Department and / or Secondary Principal

Main Working Relationships

  • Head of Thai Department, Secondary Principal, Secondary Leadership Team, the IB Coordinators, Service Learning Coordinator, Social and Emotional Learning Director, Learning Support Department and the Secondary School Teaching staff.

Responsibilities

  • All teachers should be willing, eager and capable of delivering the five components of the UWCT education programme: Academic; Social and Emotional Learning and Mindfulness; Service; Activities and Outdoor Education. The teacher’s responsibilities include :

General    

  • Acting as a role model for students and fellow teachers.
  • Helping develop an environment in which students are challenged, provided with a sense of   purpose and an enthusiasm for learning. 
  • Sharing responsibility and accountability for maintaining high standards throughout the School.
  • Cherishing the school’s special culture and supporting its continued growth and evolution as a   dynamic learning environment.
  • Developing your own professional skills through professional development.
  • Meeting regularly in teams to discuss key tasks, serve on school committees and other shared decision - making mechanisms.
  • Undertaking any tasks that may reasonably be requested in order to assist with the efficient and   effective operation of the School.

Academic    

  • As determined by the Secondary Principal, teaching Grade 6-12 MYP and DP ‘Thai Language and  Literature’, ‘Thai Language Acquisition’, and ‘Thai Language and Culture’ classes.
  • Maintaining standards of excellence and academic rigour within the classroom.
  • Monitoring the performance of students and ensuring that assessment and reporting procedures are followed in accordance with school policy.
  • Be accountable for the academic progress of the students in their care.
  • Assess all student work using IB criteria appropriate to the programme, subject and grade level.
  • Keeping up to date with pedagogical developments in the relevant subject or grade level.
  • Contribute to the ongoing development of curriculum and programming.  

Social and Emotional Learning, Mindfulness and Pastoral Care   

  • Being responsible for the overall welfare of students under your care from admission to graduation.
  • Developing harmonious relationships with families to ensure that the students are supported in achieving their aspirations, but at the same time recognising that we wish to develop autonomous individuals who will become responsible citizens.
  • Working with senior colleagues to ensure there is a sense of community within the School; this community should be characterised by trust, integrity, self-discipline and care and consideration for others. Students should feel valued and supported.
  • Being committed to the concept of Social and Emotional Learning by being mindful, teaching mindfully and teaching mindfulness.
  • Supporting the Principal as appropriate.
  • Supporting students to develop a growth mindset and taking responsibility for their own learning. 

Service

  • Being committed to the concept of service-learning to ensure that maximum opportunities are provided for students.
  • Participating enthusiastically in the service programme and making a termly contribution.
  • Encouraging students and parents to become involved in service by promoting the programme as a key component of the UWCT educational programme.                                                        

Activities

  • Participating enthusiastically in the activities programme and making a termly contribution. Supporting students to develop a range of interests, skills and talents through involvement in the activities programme.       

Outdoor Education  

  • Participating in the development and implementation of the School outdoor education programme including the annual ​"Grade level Expeditions"​.
  • Providing opportunities for students to learn concepts outside of the normal classroom environment, ultimately in real world situations.

Communication  

  • Taking an active role in promoting the School and communicating the UWCT mission, vision, values and educational philosophy.
  • Ensuring that parents are kept informed through weekly newsletters and other channels, both formal and informal.
  • Liaising effectively with representative groups within the School: for example, the Parent Support Group and the Student Council.
  • Assisting with the development of close and mutually beneficial relationship with Thanyapura. 

Required Qualifications  

  • A teaching degree / professional teaching qualification / Thai teaching license is essential.
  • A minimum of 2 years successful teaching experience, ideally in an international school environment at the Primary School level.
  • Knowledge and understanding of the International Baccalaureate Programmes is desirable.
