BASIC FUNCTIONS REQUIRED:

Incumbent serves as the Senior Surveillance and Research Coordinator for activities conducted by the Epidemiology Branch, Centers for Disease Control and prevention (CDC) Division of Global Health Protection (DGHP) in Nonthaburi, Thailand. The incumbent is responsible for performing a variety of tasks in initiating, planning, organizing, implementing, coordinating, monitoring, and evaluating infectious disease surveillance and research activities conducted by DGHP and collaborating institutions. The incumbent directly supervises the surveillance coordinators in DGHP’s two surveillance provinces and oversees the surveillance, research, and training activities of over 50 contract staff in the 20 surveillance hospitals. The incumbent, along with DGHP collaborators, particularly Thai Ministry of Public Health (MOPH) staff, takes a lead role investigating and responding to diseases outbreaks that are in line with DGHP missions and objectives. As a member of the senior management team, the incumbent plays a key role in DGHP's strategic & action planning.

QUALIFICATIONS REQUIRED:

  • Education: M.D. with MPH (Masters in Public Health), PhD in biological science with MPH, or PhD in epidemiology with MPH is required. Physicians should be licensed to practice medicine in Thailand required with medical specialty board certification in either Preventive Medicine, Internal Medicine, Pediatrics or with sub-specialty in Infectious Disease.
  • Experience: At least five years’ experience with surveillance systems and/or research projects in infectious diseases. At least two years of supervisory experience is required.
  • Language: Level IV (Fluent) Speaking/Reading/Writing English and Thai are required.  A copy of valid TOEIC score (Listening and Reading Section) of at least 855 is required with your application before the deadline.
  • Skills:
    • An advanced ability to manage and analyze data is mandatory (e.g., SPSS, Access).
    • Skilled in organizing and managing subordinate staff.
    • An advanced ability to prepare oral and written reports in English for senior-level national and international scientific audience is required.
    • The incumbent must operate in a complex environment requiring highly developed analytical ability and judgment.
  • Knowledge:
    • Advanced knowledge of disease surveillance and epidemiological research methods and procedures is required.
    • Able to manage, analyze and communicate epidemiologic data
    • Understand Study protocols - edits and updates questionnaires and related forms, including preparation of Standard Operating Procedures (SOP) for use in collecting information from study subjects from various research projects to provide maximum support in meeting the objectives of the research study.
