Sr. Director, Manufacturing Operations

This executive, directly reporting to the VP/GM Thailand, will lead and significantly expand the manufacturing operations in Thailand. In this role you will lead a 600,000 square foot factory and build the strategy, team and process that scale efficiently to build high quality products, maximize inventory and minimize costs. Product manufactured at this site include optical transceivers, transmission components and modules, pump lasers, source lasers, high reliability optical components, passive components and modules. This leader will work aggressively with engineering and demand planning functions to ensure order fulfillment expectations. They will be connected to the details of manufacturing, becoming fully integrated at the plant and the community, establishing Lumentum as an employer of choice. This leader will drive all manufacturing operations and be accountable for cycle time, yields, on time delivery, efficiency and cost reduction.

The candidate will build a high-performance teams.  They will hire to win, attracting, training, and developing leaders that scale while implementing processes and systems that enable success. This person will fully develop a team that is defined by operations and financial success and being great business partners across Lumentum. As a key member of the Thailand leadership team this person will instill Kaizen and a continuous improvement and root cause analysis methodology at all levels of the organization.


Specific Responsibilities:

  • Must meet financial performance expectations, exceed customer requirements and create value for business partners while developing a proactive, results-oriented team.
  • Responsible for all aspects of Thailand manufacturing operations both sustaining and new products.
  • Responsible for equipment uptime and performance  -- manages the equipment maintenance and engineering teams.
  • Responsible for developing processes, training and governance across the supply chain in Thailand.
  • Ensure on time shipments, customer commitments met, targeted costs and cost reductions are achieved.
  • Work closely with finance, product engineering, and other internal teams to develop cost forecasts, assess needs and develop and execute on aligned strategies.
  • Identify opportunities for operational excellence and cost saving.
  • Participate in the coordination of engineering changes, product line extensions and new product launches to ensure orderly and timely transitions in material and production flow.
  • Drive cultural change, infusing continuous improvement methodology and knowledge, and influencing decisions at all levels of the organization.
  • Drive alignment across all functions to improve operational visibility and drive appropriate business actions; highlight trends and analyze causes of unexpected variance in actuals vs. forecast.
  • Actively communicate the revenue/Mfg plan and targets for the site and achieve this plan as a team.
  • Regularly hold feedback sessions with teams to develop improvements.
  • Adopt a culture of measure, monitor and control working with Global Quality on standardization of process control.
  • Encourage your teams to take ownership and accountability for their part of the plan and seek out improvements.
  • Ensure there is clarity around capacity planning that supports the SOP process and site burden.



  • Operations Management or Technically oriented graduate degree is required with a minimum of 5 - 8 years of experience in operations.
  • Strong operational management skills with the ability to establish plans and forecast and to meet commitments.
  • Proven ability to attract high-caliber individuals, and build a strong team.
  • Skills and willingness to proactively develop the organization to meet future readiness and scalability requirements.
  • A champion of Kaizen/continuous improvement, root cause analysis, having successfully implemented those tools, methodologies and philosophies throughout the organization.
  • Track record of on time delivery, efficiency, and reduction in costs.
  • Medium volume, high mix manufacturing would be ideal.  
  • Strong English language skills and the ability to work cross-functionally and cross-culturally to be a good leader and team member.  Excellent communicator, both written and verbal.
  • Drive ethics/integrity and an inclusive personality with the team and community.
