As an international cooperation enterprise with worldwide operations, the German government-owned Deutsche Gesellschaft für Internationale Zusammenarbeit (GIZ) GmbH operates on behalf of German ministries, the governments of other countries and international clients to provide tailor-made, cost-efficient and effective services for sustainable development. We are looking for a Nakhon Sawan-based intern to support the project, Thai German Cooperation on Energy Mobility and Climate (TGC EMC) – Biomass Component or TGC EMC Biomass.

Thailand aims to reduce emissions by 30-40% by 2030, focusing on the energy and transport sectors. Despite the potential of renewable energy, the country still relies heavily on fossil fuels. The TGC EMC program supports Thailand's energy transition, emphasizing renewable energy, including biomass from agricultural residues, to address pollution and promote sustainable growth. The Biomass to Energy component targets enhancing the energy supply chain by utilizing agricultural residues, especially from sugarcane and rice aligning with national policies and supporting farmer income. GIZ collaborates with local agencies to tackle emissions, enhance agricultural practices, and implement effective management systems. Nakhon Sawan was selected as a pilot area for its significant PM2.5 pollution issues and the presence of biomass power plants that use agricultural residues.

We are seeking a motivated and dedicated intern to join our team in Nakhon Sawan province. This internship position offers a unique opportunity to contribute to a pioneering project focused on converting biomass to sustainable energy. The ideal candidate will have a passion for sustainable development and renewable energy.

 Main Role:

The Intern will support the Senior Field Advisor and Advisor in planning, developing, and implementing the biomass-to-energy project in Nakhon Sawan, including biogas, biochar activities and relevance activities.

Major Functions/Duties:

Under the direct supervision of the Project Manager and as a member of the project team, the Intern will carry out the following tasks:

·       Assist the Field Advisors in administrative tasks, document translation, and relevant research.

·       Assisting in rice straw biogas and biochar experiments in the target areas.

·       Assist in the organization of project events, both online and on-site.

·       Assist in preparing meetings, workshops, and training events, including handling documents and presentation preparation.

·       Collect data from field visits and engage with local stakeholders, ensuring efficient document management.

·       Assist in developing communication materials, such as promotional activities through stories, articles, and PR efforts.

·       Other relevant tasks assigned by the project team.

Qualifications:

·       Recent graduates with Bachelor’s degree or Master’s degree in Renewable Energy or a related field.

·       Relevant experience in biochar, biogas and alternative energy technologies, is a plus.

·       Excellent communication and interpersonal skills.

·       Proficiency in Thai language (both written and spoken) and at least good English skills (written and spoken).

·       Proficiency in Microsoft Office (Word, Excel, and PowerPoint) and Microsoft Teams.

·       Valid car driving license.

·       Thai nationality only.

·       Good organizational and conceptualization skills

·       Hands-on mentality and detail-oriented work ethics

·       Ability to work independently and in a team

·       Ability to work under time pressure and meet deadlines with strong attention to consistency, detail, and quality

·       Interest and desire to work in a cross-cultural context, climate change mitigation and adaptation, and sustainable agriculture value chains

·       Ability to travel and work closely with local farmers, several partners and actors

·       Willing to open mind to learn new things

Duty station and timeframe:

The internship is based in Nakhon Sawan province (Provincial Agricultural Extension Office) and lasts for 6 months. The selected candidate is expected to start as soon as possible. This position is a renumerated internship.
