The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of indeed to the Regional CEP so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third part services.
To provide support for the named pupil by:
o Establishing a productive working relationship with the named pupil;
o Fostering the participation of the named pupil in the social and academic processes of the school;
o Seeking to enable the named pupil to become a more independent learner
o Helping to raise the standards of achievement for the named pupil in all curriculum areas;
Key Tasks - with particular reference to the named pupil:
o To build a ‘circle of trust and respect’ with the named pupil and other children within the class / school;
o To ensure that you understand the named pupil’s needs in relation to his learning, his strengths and weaknesses and his personal motivations.
Teaching and Learning:
o To assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programs for the named pupil;
o To collaborate the SENCo, SaLT and the named pupil’s class teacher to plan appropriate strategies (including resources that may be needed / could be used to deliver learning, to assist with the child’s progression);
o To create the appropriate resources for the named pupil to use both in class and around school and collaborate the SENCo, SaLT and The named pupil’s class teacher about their use;
o To support the named pupil on educational visits out of school or at clubs (but within school hours);
o To assist in the educational and social development of The named pupil under the direction and guidance of the SENCo, SaLT and the named pupil’s class teacher;
o To provide feedback on the learner about their strengths and weaknesses, performance within the lesson after the session (format to be agreed);
o To implement agreed learning activities and/or teaching programs, adjusting activities according to the named pupil’s responses and needs;
o To help develop programs of learning activities and to adapt appropriate materials, with the support of the SENCo, SaLT and the named pupil’s class teacher;
o To provide support for the named pupil inside and outside the classroom to enable him to fully participate in activities;
o To encourage the named pupil to interact and work co-operatively with others;
o To provide morning supervision on the playground between the times of 7.45am and 8.15am (or whatever time the named pupil arrives in school) and at playtimes (10.10am-10.30am) and at ECA’s as required;
o To have an awareness of the lessons the class teacher is delivering and prepare tasks (with the support of the SENCo, SaLT and the named pupil’s class teacher) in order to support The named pupil’s learning;
o To work with the SENCo, SaLT and the named pupil’s class teacher to establish an appropriate learning environment;
o To work with the SENCo, SaLT and the named pupil’s class teacher to ensure the named pupil’s learning needs are fully met.
Recording and Assessment:
o To assist in the implementation of Individual Education Programs for the named pupil and help monitor its progress;
o To contribute to any written reports that are for parents/families and professionals;
o To monitor and feedback the named pupil’s responses to learning activities through observation and planned recording of achievement against pre-determined learning objectives;
o To provide feedback to the SENCo, SaLT and the named pupil’s class teacher.
Standards and Quality Assurance:
o To support the aims and ethos of the school;
o To uphold the school's behaviour code and dress code;
o To participate in Continuing Professional Development;
o To attend team meetings as required;
o To be proactive in matters relating to health and safety and safeguarding;
o Carry out any other reasonable duties as directed by the head teacher, the SENCo, SaLT and The named pupil’s class teacher.
o English Speaker (essential)
o Experience working with children with specific / identified learning needs (desirable)
o Degree (preferably in education)
o 7.30am – 4pm (Monday – Friday during term time)

o Fixed term in line with the named pupil being educated in St Andrews, Dusit.
