R&D Technical Project Manager

Summary : 

  • To lead delivery of a number of key projects in one or more platforms of the innovation pipeline, from concept stage through to launch. To represent R&D on project development teams, providing technical expertise and interfacing effectively with other functions in the business.
  • To ensure best practice project management, including support and planning with an emphasis on project milestones delivery. To effectively lead a cross functional ‘virtual’ team to deliver to market.
  • Understand and influence the multi functional team involved in delivering innovation (i.e. all R&D functions, Marketing, Supply, 3rd parties as applicable, etc.). To deal effectively with complexity and ambiguity to understand and adjust to changing situations and problems as they arise.
  • Typical projects are over a six month to three years time frame and would deliver significant incremental net revenue

Responsibilities :-

  • Through leadership of virtual cross functional project teams, ensure that projects are delivered to launch on time, budget and to the appropriate performance standards, quality and cost:
  • Work with R&D Manager and Marketing Champion to ensure that fully populated Product Development Brief (PDB) is available for approval prior to commencement of development work
  • Act as an exemplar of current best approach on project management / planning, including creation and management of key project management documentation
  • Liaise closely with the Marketing Champion throughout product development process and act as a key contact along with R&D Manager
  • Ensure products deliver against key consumer needs and support the concept positioning and claims (including full utilization of the available consumer testing resources throughout product development)
  • Ensure all parties involved in delivering project are held accountable for completion of actions on time and to required standards and resolve any arising issues (with support as required)
  • Make decisions on day to day activities to ensure project delivery – escalate issues as appropriate
  • Establish, track and manage resource requirements, including effective budget management
  • Complete technical success criteria and alignment with all relevant parties at outset of project
  • Ownership of milestone plan, ensuring that all product development activities are completed on time
  • Ensure relevant project management tools and documents are fully utilized throughout project and track vs. criteria established with PDB and success criteria. Highlight any risks to these as project progresses.
  • Show effective risk management including communication to key stakeholders
  • Effective supply handover prior to production including success criteria complete, MOM, TDS documentation and supporting data in place, as well as completion of Technical Dossier.
  • Support idea/concept generation where appropriate
  • Ensure all product development work adheres to RB Global Quality Manuals and regulatory requirements

  • Enforce quality mind by ‘Right first time’ practice for working in area by following documented procedures & follow good documentation practice

  • Be aware, accountable for safety, health & environment in workplace all time to ensure free-accident & good environment area of working
  • Follow safety, health & environment regulations & policy by working safely, reporting unsafe condition / unsafe act / near miss accident to supervisor as well as suggest for any improvement

Qualifications :-

  • Good degree in a relevant scientific discipline
  • Experienced professional with high level project management, and technical skills within Healthcare/ FMCG environment. Specific relevant Category and Brand experience is strongly preferred
  • Proven track record in defining and delivering projects
  • Results oriented, entrepreneurial and self-motivated, with solid planning and organisational capabilities, a bias for action, and the capability to define, evaluate and manage risks
  • Strong analytical skills with the ability to think strategically, develop tactics and measurable implementation plans and able to transform solid thinking into action
  • Proven ability to work under pressure without compromising on deliverable
  • Understanding of strategy and planning issues, consumer understanding, priority setting and project management
  • Good leadership, motivational and interpersonal skills
  • Excellent communication skills
  • Strong intellectual curiosity with an appetite for exploring new and previously uncharted territories and an openness to change and ability to think out of the box
