CHIEF ACCOUNTANT

SUMMARY STATEMENT:

The chief accountant is the head accountant and has to handle the whole team of accountants. The chief manage all the employees in the department along with shifts and training, teach the junior accountants all about the company protocols and also teach them the accounting formulas followed by the company.

 

The chief has to oversee all the balancing of the accounts at the end of the financial year. However, the management can require the final accounts anytime of the year; hence the chief has to be ready with the accounts. The chief is the one who present the accounts to the board and sometimes even to the shareholders, if any. This is an important function of the chief accountant job description.

 

The chief accountant is considered to be a part of senior management and the chief’s opinion is held in high regard. The chief can make suggestions to the management on how to improve profits and cut losses. The chief gain more importance during economic downturns, as they are the one who can come with financial measure that will help the company to weather the storm.

 

The chief also has other important tasks that most heads of departments have. The chief has to recommend people for promotions, solve any issues that rise in the department, fix the budget of the department and implement it. The chief has to coordinate with other departmental heads.

 

RESPONSIBILITIES/DUTIES:

 

  • Handle full spectrum of financial and cost accounting role eg. AR, AP, GL, forecasting, budgeting etc.
  • Responsible for day to day finance and accounts operations
  • Perform full set of accounts and ensure timely closing of accounts
  • Perform project cost forecasts/budgets, cost tracking, monitoring and controls.
  • Responsible for timely monthly consolidated financial statements, payments, cash-flow management reporting for submission to the right person.
  • Review & approve payment vouchers & journal entries
  • Perform cash flow forecasting, budgeting and working closely with the operations and project teams in analyzing margins, variances and cost analysis.
  • Issue project cost reports for review and approval.
  • Develop and maintain internal control and effective accounting system and policies for the set up.
  • Establish and maintain systems for cost-sensitivity analysis and early-warning of cost-overruns
  • Work consultatively with the respective departments on cost reduction initiatives

 

KEY SKILLS:
  • CPA or Mininum Degree in Accounting/Finance/ACCA qualification
  • Technical Skills and Prior Experience Five to seven years prior supervisory experience in the financial reporting/general ledger area.
  • Strong verbal and written communication skills in English.
  • Strong interpersonal, supervisory and customer service skills required.
  • Ability to multi-task, work under pressure and meet deadlines required.
