The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of indeed to the Regional CEP so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third part services.

 

The ideal candidate would be expected to support a child on a 1:1 basis, who has Special Educational Needs (SEN). They would be required to:

  • Work alongside classroom, subject and Learning Support teachers to ensure that the student’s learning needs are met and they are able to access the curriculum as fully as possible.
  • Support students in lessons, school trips, whole school activities, cultural celebrations, ECA’s and wherever necessary.
  • Being aware of the needs of individual students and anticipating the implications of these needs in a variety of teaching and learning situations.
  • Be punctual to all timetabled lessons and participating fully at the direction of the class teacher.
  • Adapt tasks and help to prepare materials and resources.
  • To clarify/explain content and instructions written and orally.
  • Ensure that students are able to use equipment correctly in a way that supports their learning.
  • Facilitate positive behaviour and interactions between students.
  • Encourage students to develop responsibility for their own learning and allow independence.
  • Plan and deliver differentiated curriculum activities based on the student’s IEP.
  • Develop professional relationships and effective communication with parents.

Qualifications

  • Experience – a minimum of 3 years working with children who have specific learning needs  and preferably in an international school environment
  • Qualified to work with/teach students
  • Education and licensing – list the minimum education, certification and/or licensing needed to be successful in this position.

Terms of Employment

  • 7.30am - 4.00pm from Monday to Friday. Not expected to work regularly on a Saturday or Sunday, but must be prepared to attend any school functions, events or training that may occur in the course of an academic year.
