1:1 Shadow Teacher (Learning Support Assistant) (Dusit Campus)

The job holder’s responsibility for promoting and safeguarding the welfare of children and young person’s for whom s/he is responsible, or with whom s/he comes into contact will be to adhere to and ensure compliance with the relevant Cognita Safeguarding; Child Protection Policy and Procedures at all times. If in the course of carrying out the duties of the role, the job holder identifies any instance that a child is suffering or likely to suffer significant harm either at school or at home, s/he must report any concerns to the School’s Child Protection Officer/Designated Safeguarding Lead or to the Head of indeed to the Regional CEP so that a referral can be made accordingly to the relevant third part services.

Position Objective

  • To provide support for students, especially those with Special Educational Needs, so that they are fully included within the St Andrews community and are able to access the curriculum and make progress.
  • To work under the instruction and / or guidance of teaching staff and / or the SENCo to undertake work, care and support programmes for students. Work may be carried out in the classroom or outside the main teaching area.



The ideal candidate would be expected to support a child who has Special Educational Needs (SEN), on a 1:1 basis, They would be required to:

  • Work alongside classroom, subject and Learning Support teachers to ensure that the student’s learning needs are met and they are able to access the curriculum as fully as possible.
  • Support students in lessons, school trips, whole school activities, cultural celebrations, ECA’s and wherever necessary.
  • Being aware of the needs of individual students and anticipating the implications of these needs in a variety of teaching and learning situations.
  • Be punctual to all timetabled lessons and participating fully at the direction of the class teacher.
  • Adapt tasks and help to prepare materials and resources.
  • Clarify/explain content and instructions written and orally.
  • Ensure that students are able to use equipment correctly in a way that supports their learning.
  • Facilitate positive behaviour and interactions between students.
  • Encourage students to develop responsibility for their own learning and allow independence.
  • Plan and deliver differentiated curriculum activities based on the student’s IEP.
  • Develop professional relationships and effective communication with parents.

Position Requirements

  •          Fluent in English (and Thai) with excellent spoken and written English
  •          Experience working with children who have specific learning needs, particularly those on the              Autistic Spectrum
  •          Experience working with children aged 4-11 years
  •          Kind, hardworking, confident and creative
  •       Awareness of the British National Curriculum and phonics (desirable, not essential)


  •          Experience working with children in an educational setting
  •       Bachelor’s degree, Education degree preferred


  •       Working across the school/SEN department. 

Working Conditions


This role is a team teaching position shared between two 1:1 shadow teachers, who will rotate between two children with Special Educational Needs. 7.30am -4.00pm from Monday to Friday.
