Join our team as a Principal Engineer in Global Advanced Manufacturing and help support the manufacturing process in development and implementation within machining processes.

Job Summary

This position will be responsible for delivering component manufacturing by assuring that parts and assemblies are processed and tooled to meet optimum safety, quality, delivery and cost requirements. Provide technical support to analyze and develop manufacturing control systems.  Interface with Team Associates/Operations Leaders, Quality and Product Engineering, Materials and Manufacturing Support Services.

 

Job Responsibilities

  • Play a leading role in product and process development and integration between Engineering and Manufacturing (both within Harley-Davidson and Supply Base).
  • Lead highly impactful new model projects by interfacing with design engineering, transitioning the process to Operations, completing an after-action analysis, and providing Continuous Improvement.
  • Interact with key stakeholders such as international Original Equipment suppliers, product design teams, and leadership to lead successful projects while maintaining quality, cost, and timing.
  • Serve as a manufacturing mentor to the on-site operations team.

 

Education Specifications

  • Requires a Bachelor of Science Degree in Engineering or a related technical field.

 

Experience Requirements

The successful candidate will have a minimum of 8 years of relevant experience.  In addition, they will have demonstrated the following:

  • Demonstrated experience in machining of Aluminum and Steel components and deep knowledge of CNC machines, work holding, and cutting tools.
  • Familiarity with preceding and subsequent operations including Casting, Forging, Assembly, Heat Treatment, and Cosmetic Finishes.
  • Deep knowledge and proven application of Design for Assembly/Manufacturing (DFA/M) principles; Advanced Product Quality Planning (APQP) Methodology and the integrated product and process development techniques within it.  Examples include Process Flow Diagrams, PFMEA, Control Plans, I/PPAP, and Standard Work.
  • Success in managing medium-to-large-scale projects from concept development to capital funding planning and approval, and ultimately through successful implementation.
  • Successful procurement of supplementary machining processes such as part washers, leak testing, and sub-assembly from equipment selection through implementation.
  • Ability to lead change, influence others, foster key stakeholder relationships, identify and plan for technical process improvements while remaining focused, non-confrontational, and flexible under pressure.
